About
THE AUTHOR
My name is Roxy Black and I am a writer and artist from Detroit, MI. Making comics has been a passion of mine since I was a kid, and I think in the back of my head I knew it was always something I wanted to spend my life doing. I spent most of my 20’s adrift just doing jobs I felt had to do to get by, but when covid quarantine hit in 2020, it stirred up a lot of reevaluation and self reflection, and it finally got through my thick skull that the most important way to live life is to never give up on your dreams. I had been keeping mine on the backburner waiting for the “right day to start” but then I realized the right time is right now. So here I am now, finally writing and self-publishing, and I hope the world enjoys what I have to offer! Thanks for stopping by!
ÞAW
Transhuman Advent World (abbreviated THAW or ÞAW) is a graphic novel series I came up with in college, and is what always daydreamed about writing whenever I would space out on the clock. Because I was constantly coming up with ideas, I had about a decade’s worth of lore and worldbuilding already and didn’t want to let it go to waste.
The story follows Ghoul, an “undead” who wakes up on a scientist’s lab table with an altered body and no memories, and his adventure to find out who he was and what happened to him.
The series will explore themes such as:
-one’s sense of identity
-our relationships with society and technology, and how they impact identity
-the dividing line where magic meets science
-our relationships with the concepts of death and rebirth
ROXY ROCKETT
Roxy Rockett as a character is simply my idealized self, how I see myself in my head. The version of myself I draw in these comics feels like a much more authentic version of myself than I’ve been able to express in person. She’s what was born out of the combination of my love of monster girls and the idea “be the goth gf you want to see in the world.”
The majority of these comics are gag strips, but at times I will also be using them as an outlet for my own personal thoughts feelings on a lot of other topics, such as trauma, ontology, metaphysics, the occult, and spirituality.
